Intern Program
THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO EXPOSE THE INTERN FIREFIGHTER TO THE WORKINGS OF A PROGRESSIVE MULTI-HAZARD AGENCY, WHILE PREPARING THEM FOR A CAREER IN THE FIRE SERVICE.THIS IS TRULY ON THE JOB TRAINING EXPERIENCE. CAPTAIN TUCKER IS OUR LEAD COORDINATOR FOR THIS PROGRAM.
Captain Tucker
A TASK SHEET HAS BEEN DEVELOPED THAT MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE INTERN FIREFIGHTER. SOME OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE TASK SHEET INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
PREREQUISITES
- Graduation from high school
- Graduation from an accredited Firefighter 1 academy
- Pass a comprehensive background check
- Pass a psychological exam
- Pass a medical physical to be able to perform the essential functions of the job
- Current CPAT
CANDIDATE TESTING
- Appropriate use of personal protective clothing
- Department Policies and Procedures
- Organizational structure
- Firefighter safety
- Structural firefighting
- Wildland firefighting
- Hose operations
- Ventilation theory and practices
- Salvage and overhaul practices
- Medical aid skills
REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of forty eight (48) hours per month qualifying time in a Stanislaus Consolidated fire station
- Twenty-four (24) hour increment desired, but no less than twelve (12) hour increments
- Maintain and develop a working relationship with members of the District, neighboring districts & departments, and our public
